and met the dynamic April Gudenrath on the first day of school.
An English teacher who reminded me so much of our own Jenny Robb but even more outgoing ( is it possible?) with the students. She flips her classes and her senior advanced Theory of Knowledge students gave me feedback -all positive.
No uniforms, all chewing gum, cellphones ipods tablets and ipads allowed in class plus eating and drinking allowed in the labs but bring your own roll of paper towels to manage wipe ups. Another dynamic science teacher Terrie in the lab also flips
There are year 9 students. Labs are about fun because you do so much of the background work at home or whenever you can look at the videos and do your homework. More one on one time in class.
All videos are relatively short about 10 mins. Not all made by teacher but most are. And homework is a must. The principal Mr Bailey also spent an informative time with me He is very supportive but it is up to individual teachers to do this or not. Seems to me teachers and students love flipping.
This is a British Literature class of year 11 and 12 students who had perhaps not been successful in English before but as they were introduced to the concept of flipping I could tell they were going to enjoy it as April talked to them about the practical experiences they were going to have in acting and living the literature rather than taking notes about it.
Keen to get back into the class now...... Just not this week!
